Bipolar disorder, also known as manic-depressive illness, and depression affect millions of Americans and millions of people throughout the world. These disorders have a significant impact on those who suffer from them. Different from the normal ups and downs that everyone goes through, the symptoms of depression and bipolar disorder are severe, and they often leave individuals reeling, searching for solutions from therapists, psychiatrists and other mental health professionals. Support groups provide an opportunity for those with depression or bipolar disorder to learn from others who have walked in their shoes, had similar experiences, felt the same emotions and gone through similar trials.
Our support groups provide individuals with the opportunity to share and grow from each other in a safe, confidential and welcoming environment. It has been said by many of the group participants that these meetings have contributed significantly to their personal growth and wellness while providing an opportunity to build life-long, meaningful friendships.
The Reston Depression and Bipolar Support Group is DBSA-Northern Virginia's newest group. At this point in time, it is the only group of its kind which serves the Reston community in this capacity.
Reston Depression and Bipolar Support Group: The group meets every Monday at 7:30 p.m. at Oakbrook Church: A Community Experiencing Christ. Located at 1700 Reston Parkway, Reston, VA 20914. The meetings are held in the basement classroom, located behind the church building. Please, park behind the church if possible. Anyone with depression or bipolar is welcome.
